Dear Governor Abbott, Dear Members of the Board of Pardons and Paroles,
The execution of Troy Clark is scheduled to occur on September 26 , 2018.
Troy has only 6 years of education and a long story involving drugs. He claims that his girlfriend Tory Bush commited the murder. He has been on Death Row since March 31, 2000 and in all the time he has been here he claims that he has never had a lawyer visit and he has never even met his appeals attorney.
I respectfully and urgently ask you to stop this execution.
The death penalty alone imposes an irrevocable sentence. Once an inmate is executed, nothing can be done to make amends if a mistake has been made. There is considerable evidence that many mistakes have been made in sentencing people to death.
Death penalty is a cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment. It must be seen as perpetuating a cycle of violence and promoting a sense of vengeance. The death penalty offers the tragic illusion that we can defend life by taking life. It is just a crime added to another crime.
It has never been shown convincingly that the death penalty deters crimes more effectively than other punishments such as life imprisonment. States that do not employ the death penalty generally have lower murder rates than states that do.
Public support for the death penalty does not necessarily mean that taking away the life of a human being by the state is right. It is the job of leading figures and politicians to underline the incompatibility of capital punishment with human rights and human dignity.
I ask you to commute the death sentence of Troy Clark and to introduce a moratorium on the death penalty in view to abolish it.
Sincerely,
(Nom et coordonnées)
